Early in the second trimester is when it is most challenging to know how to properly clothe oneself. The midsection is definitely acquiring some pudge…but nothing that officially qualifies as a “baby bump.” The clothes that fit before you got pregnant probably still fit–but not the way they should.  And yet maternity clothes kind of just look frumpy when you don’t really have the proper bump to fill them out.

Hallelujah for the several non-maternity fashion trends out there right now that kind of work…like layered looks with outer layers that hang loose and sweaters/shirts that kind of stylistically sag and bag in various places (I am sure sag and bag are not the appropriate terms in the fashion industry). By the way, skinny jeans get no hallelujahs from me.

As for pants…here is how I have “stretched” the length of time I can still fit into my normal jeans…

It isn’t rocket science, and I am sure I am not the first or only person to do this…but I have found that a pony tail holder finds a perfect second calling as a waistline extender.

Just a little tip from me to you 🙂

(PS. Even if you are not pregnant, you might find this helpful in the upcoming holiday season! Just slip an extra ponytail holder around your wrist before dinner….just in case.)

Happy growing!

Thanks for this. I’m heading into week 18 and have had the hardest time dressing myself for work this last few days! I’m going to have to try this trick!!
