My baby loves him a good smoothie!

Mommy loves them, too. For approximately the first year of Josiah’s life, I didn’t have many smoothies because he was scared of the blender…

But not anymore! Now when he hears the blender, Josiah comes running. He tugs on my pants and stands on his tip toes and reaches up saying “uh, uh, uh…”

I can’t seem to fill his cup fast enough!

Because we are regular smoothie consumers, I stock up on fruit when it is in season (and, therefore, cheap!!) and keep bags of frozen fruit in my freezer for smoothies year round. However, I do not always have yogurt on hand (and a smoothie just isn’t a smoothie without yogurt). A couple of months ago, I told you how I made and froze baby food in ice cube trays (see here). Today, I pulled the ice cube trays back out and froze some yogurt cubes.

Since we always have some sort of flavored drink mix in our cupboard we are ready to whip up a smoothie whenever the mood strikes :).

These smoothies are made from:

About 1 cup of frozen fruit: blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and pineapple

2 vanilla yogurt cubes

1 Tablespoon of wheat germ (I used to throw in protein powder, but Josiah doesn’t like it. But he doesn’t even notice wheat germ or flaxseed)

A Single Shot Flavored Drink Mix (find stuff like this where you buy Crystal Light or KoolAid at the grocery store)

Approximately 1.5 cups of water (I don’t actually measure this, I just keep adding it until it blends into a good consistency)

(After blending I add extra water to Josiah’s so that it strains through the sippy cup better. I also leave out the leak proof thing in the sippy cup for this reason.)

MMMMmmmmmmm!
