As I told you last week, our home had an addition put on it several years before we purchased it. It is on the rear of the house, beyond the kitchen. Although we have rearranged a few times, we have always used that space as our living room:I have never had a problem with the use of the addition as a living room. What I DID have a bit of an issue with was the way room that would have been the home’s original living room had become sort of a random room:This “random room” was the first room you saw when you entered our home. And was usually strewn with toys.Last week, I showed you how we refinished to floors and decided to move our living room furniture into this original living room space:The addition, then, became our “bonus room.” It was very well suited for such a purpose since it offered a large carpeted play space for the kids which is open to the kitchen and a great place to put our newly painted computer desk unit.
However, it was still a bit of a work in progress.
It was Christmas season when we made the room swap, and the big open room and the bay window style area at the end of the room was PERFECT for a Christmas tree. Unfortunately I didn’t really get any pictures of the room during the holiday season other than all of these from Christmas morning. Hopefully they’ll give you an idea of what it was like…
Anyway, after Christmas, the room looked a bit sad…like a collection of random leftover furniture and pillows that didn’t fit anywhere else in the house (probably because that is WHAT IT WAS).
Some DIY Roman Shades I made from some clearance fabric I had in my stash and a bunch of coordinating pillows really helped to pull it all together!…Now it is like a sweet little book nook. With a whole shelf of kids books to choose from:The fireplace “mantle” also got a new wreath:With rosettes made from fabric scraps from the pillows:So then the room looked like this. For a few months, we had this sorta odd line up of furniture……but then we moved the wooden hutch out (and the rocker and the lamp). And this is what we were left with:Welcome to our new bonus room!––-:-
